The plan by MCPSS was released to administrators, teachers, parents, and students at the same time. We've had to adjust many things based only on the information provided at the press conference - for that reason we have adjusted the band camp schedule to provide us enough time to make any preparations or changes should new information come out. Thank you for your patience!
This band camp is NOT required - we want you to be comfortable sending your child. We are using the following guidelines: temperature checks at the door (including staff), masks & social distancing at all times, hand sanitizer stations, and all areas are thoroughly cleaned following rehearsals. Additionally, we have divided the band into smaller groups. Any student who is sick - must stay home. It is important to know that there are still risks involved - however, safety is our priority.
You might have some questions about the season itself: we've only had a couple of days to process the school plan, however we are still planning on participating at home games (under proper guidelines). In addition to this, we are hoping to provide parents & family with a number of opportunities to come watch the band. This may include working in some performances in the spring, depending on the situation.
IMPORTANT RESOURCES FOR THE UPCOMING SEASON:
The Mary G. Montgomery High School Viking Band has a long tradition of excellence. The program consists of more than 150 hardworking students. MGM High School boasts the award-winning Viking Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Winds, Jazz I, and Jazz II. Each of these ensembles have received consecutive superior ratings in all categories over the last several years. The Viking Marching Band also just returned from the 2018 Chicago St. Patrick's Day Parade in Chicago, Illinois. The goal of each member of the program is to strive each and every day to promote and uphold the highest level of visual and musical performance. The MGM Band Program continues to reach new heights in music education, performance, and community service each and every year.
Passion, Precision, Excellence.
